Gender Alliance Development Center (GADC) organized the seminar on Empowering Women’s Labor Rights in Albania. During this activity was presented the Study “Women’s and Young Women’s Labor Rights in Albania” financed by the European Union, under the frame of the project “Respecting the labor rights of women in Albania as means to reduce the feminization of poverty”, on 23 June 2010 at Tirana International Hotel.

Some of the honorable participants that were present during the event were:  Mr. Thomas Von Handel - Head of Political, Economic and Information Section, EU Delegation to Albania, Ms. Filloreta Kodra-Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities,  Ms. Nora Malaj-Deputy Minister of  the Ministry of Education and Science, some attaché of diplomatic corpus in Albania, representatives of the Albanian parliament, representatives of the civil society, representatives of the local academic field and a great number of businesswomen.

Women’s rights in the labor market, as one of the main fundamental human rights, has drawn the attention of the GADC for a long time.
This right was previously seen in the different aspects of the private life. Now it is presented through a serious study “Women’s Labor Rights in Albania” which covers all the legal aspects and the institutional mechanisms on the implementation of this right. At the same time there are some indicators that illustrate the position of women in the public and private markets and their formalization in relation to the application of these rights.
The experts that conducted this study, Ms. Elida Metaj, Ms. Ani Plaku and Mr. Admir Duraj presented concrete data on the implementation of the women’s rights in the Albanian and European Union labor market, by underlying the fact that the proposed conclusions and recommendations by this study might be a direct attempt of the civil society to influence on the compilation of the labor policies so that they resist time and all the political, economical and cultural changes that might occur in Albania.
During the last part, the audience was divided in three working groups, focusing on:
Working groups:
1. Access to (social) gender/ security - Moderator Mrs. Entela Pinguli
2. Work safety for Women – Moderator Mrs. Anila Paparisto
3. Employers and Employees Right's – Moderator Mrs. Ani PLaku

The conclusions and recommendations proposed by these working groups can be found in the GADC web-page:  www.gadc.org.al
